Coenonympha pamphilus

Small Heath

Coenonympha pamphilus, Small Heath butterfly. Prefers grassy habitats and is numerous on Redmire Moor. Quite a small butterfly. Rests with its wings held vertically. Most easily seen on sunny days. Larvae feed on grasses, particularly Fescues.
