Millstone Grit
Surface life
Millstone Grit is a coarse sandstone forming a cap on Redmire Moor. It supports a community of ericaceous plants, particularly Ling Heather, Calluna vulgaris. The rock surfaces exposed to the sun host algae and cyanobacteria.
