Primula veris
Cowslip
Primula veris, Cowslip, is one of the earlier spring flowering plants found in shady places such as woodland and bankings. It is perennial and belongs to the family Primulaceae. The Cowslip is closely related tp the Primrose, Primula vulgaris, and natural crosses produce a hybrid called the False Oxlip. Primroses, Cowslips and the hybrid are all present in the Redmire area, flowering together in April.
